Nation USIBC, FICCI host first Smart Cities Conclave for Ajmer i. The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) and FICCI on Friday held a Smart Cities Conclave for Ajmer with senior representatives from the Rajasthan and the U.S. Government present during the conference. ii. Nation GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) System fully operationalised i. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on 25 May 2015 announced the complete operationalisation of the GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN). ii. The final operational phase of the system commenced on 19 May 2015 as it began broadcasting APV1 Certified signals.  iii. With this, India has become the fourth nation after the US, Europe and Japan to have inter-operable Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS). Also, GAGAN is the first SBAS system in the world to serve the equatorial region. Tripura lifts controversial AFSPA i. The Tripura government on Wednesday lifted the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, (AFSPA) from the state with immediate effect, chief minister Manik Sarkar announced.  ii. Nation PM Modi launches 'Kisan TV' for farmers i. Marking the first anniversary of NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched ‘Kisan TV’ at a function held in Vigyan Bhawan. ii. Nation India Set to Become Water-Scarce Country by 2025: Report i. Although India is set to become water-scarce country by 2025 due to demand-supply mis-match, the water sector is expected to see investment of $13 billion from overseas players in the next few years, a new study has said. ii. Nearly 70 per cent of country's irrigation and 80 per cent of domestic water use comes from groundwater, which is rapidly getting depleted. Nation J Jayalalithaa sworn-in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for fifth time i. AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa was on 23 May 2015 sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for fifth time. Along with her, 28 others were sworn in as ministers in her Cabinet. ii. The oath was administered by Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai. iii. She is the 18th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and succeeded O Panneerselvam who resigned on 21 May 2015 following her acquittal on 11 May 2015 in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.  Union Cabinet gave its approval for setting up Ammonia-Urea Complex at Namrup in Assam i. Nation IAF lands jet on Yamuna Expressway i. In a first, a Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Thursday successfully landed on the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura as part of trials to use national highways for emergency landing. ii. The aircraft landed at 6.40 a.m., senior IAF officers said, adding that the force has plans to activate more such stretches on highways in the future. The IAF has been considering the use of national highways for emergency landing by fighter aircraft. Infosys announced to become carbon neutral by 2018 i. Infosys on 18 May 2015 announced to become carbon neutral by 2018. For this it earmarked an amount of 400 crore rupees.
